Methodology and Editorial Policy

المنهجية وسياسة التحرير

Principle

The encyclopedia organizes and links published knowledge, and does not create original knowledge. Every substantive piece of information in it has a published source.

What enters the encyclopedia

Material enters if it has a direct relation to artificial intelligence, or a necessary relation to understanding one of its elements. In case of doubt, the default is that it is out of scope.

The following are out of scope:

  • General computer science.
  • Company news with no reference value.
  • Promotional material.
  • Unsupported forecasts.

An entry is not devoted to something that cannot support more than two lines; it is mentioned within another entry instead.

How an entry is produced

  1. Drafting: the draft is written with the assistance of artificial intelligence, from sources that were opened and read. A source is not accepted unless its existence has been verified and it has been verified to say what is attributed to it.
  2. Translation: the draft is translated into English.
  3. Automated check: verifies: - Completeness of fields. - That every reference to a source has a source. - Validity of links and relations. - Absence of duplication.
  4. Human review: the editor reviews the entry once before publication. The editor checks the information against its sources and reviews both versions.
  5. Publication: the reviewer's name and the date of review are recorded in the entry.

Types

Entries have ten types:

  • Concept.
  • Technology.
  • Dataset or Benchmark.
  • Organization.
  • Person.
  • Law or Policy.
  • Document or Work.
  • Incident or Event.
  • Country or Region.
  • Comparison or Study.

Each type has a template with defined sections, so that the reader finds information in the same place in every entry.

Updating

  • Every entry has a degree of change:
  • Stable: reviewed when needed.
  • Changing: reviewed every year.
  • Fast-changing: reviewed every three months.
  • The date of last verification is visible in every entry.
  • A substantive change returns the entry to review, such as changing a fact or a date.

Terminology

  • When a term first appears, the Arabic equivalent is written, followed by the English original in parentheses.
  • Approved equivalents are recorded in the glossary, and are used with the same meaning in every entry.
