Neutrality and Countering Misinformation

الحياد ومقاومة التضليل

Neutrality

The encyclopedia presents positions and does not adopt them. If experts or organizations disagree on an issue, the positions are presented with their holders and sources. Judgment is left to the reader.

Disputed claims

  • A claim is stated attributed to its originator, together with the sources that support it and those that oppose it.
  • If the evidence is inconclusive, this is stated expressly.
  • A forecast is not presented as fact. Forecasts are mentioned only when attributed to their authors, and only for a subject that warrants them.

Misinformation and rumors

  • No report is relayed without a source that can be consulted.
  • If a circulating claim has no basis, it may be mentioned in order to correct it, and it is described as circulating without basis.
  • An incident is not attributed to a particular technology, such as saying that the error was a "model hallucination," unless a source says so.

Promotional content

  • Marketing language is attributed to its authors, and does not become neutral description.
  • Performance figures announced by companies are stated as announced, until an independent source verifies them.

Conflicts of interest

The encyclopedia declares anything that might affect its neutrality, and addresses it with extra checks.

Entries Claude drafts about itself and its maker

  • Entry drafts are produced with Claude, a tool made by Anthropic. Some entries cover Claude itself, Anthropic, and products that compete with them.
  • The tool may lean, unintentionally, towards improving its maker's image, or towards playing down its maker's problems or its competitors' capabilities.

Qatari organizations

  • The publisher lives in Doha, Qatar. The encyclopedia covers Qatari organizations, including the Fanar platform and the Qatar Computing Research Institute (QCRI).
  • Closeness to these organizations may affect what is written about them, or how it is presented.
  • The editor's links to organizations the encyclopedia covers: [TO COMPLETE: does the editor have any professional or financial link to an organization the encyclopedia covers? What is it?]

Extra checks

These apply to entries on Claude and Anthropic, comparisons that include them, and entries on Qatari organizations and their products:

  • The editor reviews the entry sentence by sentence against its sources, not by sampling.
  • Every judgment or assessment needs an independent source at level 1 or 2. What an organization says about itself is expressly attributed to it.
  • Documented incidents and criticism are covered to the same extent as in entries on comparable organizations.
  • Comparisons with competitors use the same information, and the same standards for accepting sources.

Disclosure to the reader

  • A notice at the top of the entry states the type of conflict, for example: "This entry was drafted with a tool made by the organization it describes."
  • The extra checks are recorded in the "Provenance and Review" tab.
  • If the encyclopedia receives support from an organization it covers, this is declared in About and in that organization's entry.
